Fire Prevention & Safety

Unity VFD Station 233 stresses the importance of fire safety and provides a opportunity for children to see fire equipment and how it works. We cater to pre-school programs at Children's Express, Sunnyside Day Care and St.John's pre-school. Our children are our future. That is why we have such strong ties to the schools in our area, Regency Park Elementary, Center Elementary, and Pivik Elementary teaching the kids the five basic rules for them and their parents to learn and live by.

Five Basic Rules

    1. Smoke Detectors - One should be on every floor of your house and should be checked regularly.
    2. CO Detectors - Carbon Monoxide detectors should be in every home & checked on a regular basis as well.
    3. Practice E.D.I.T.H - Exit Drills In The Home. Always know the best & safest way to get out of your home if there ever is a fire.
    4. Stop-Drop & Roll - If your clothes ever catch on fire.
    5. Call 911 or your local Emergency number for help.

Public Relations / Demonstrations

Mock Accident - Every two years the Unity VFD and Plum EMS put on a mock accident at the Plum Senior High School just before the Prom to show the dangers of drinking and driving.

Public Relations - Our Fire Prevention committee also handles many public relation duties such as Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Girl Scout tours of the Fire Station. We make appearances at picnics, block parties and Halloween parades for the kids to see our equipment. We also do Public releations details at Unity U.P. Church, Plum Creek Presbyterian Church, St. John's the Baptist Catholic and the Nazarene Church.

Open House - We hold an open house every year at the end of Fire Prevention week. Parents and children get to see our station and equipment.

If you would like to have a demonstration for your group or function, call our station, ( 412) 793-4411 or email station233@comcast.net
